OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner: Is the Large Size Right for Your Kitchen?

The large white OXO spinner has a listed 6.22-quart bowl. Its size is the first buying question: can you store it within reach and wash the bowl, basket and lid without crowding your sink?
The pump and brake are the reasons to compare this mechanism with a crank-operated spinner. They do not remove the space and cleaning requirements that come with a large bowl.
What the large OXO model offers
The current listing identifies a 6.22-quart bowl, a push-down pump and a brake button. It also describes a non-slip base and a pump that locks down for storage. These are listed design features, not measurements of drying speed from our own testing.
| Detail | Buying check |
|---|---|
| Selected version | Large size, white lid; Amazon ASIN B00004OCKR. |
| Listed bowl capacity | 6.22 US quarts. Bowl volume does not equal a tightly packed load of leaves. |
| Listed dimensions | 6.75 × 10.25 × 10.25 inches. Confirm the selected variant before measuring your shelf. |
| Cleaning | The listing describes a removable lid assembly and dishwasher-safe parts, with the top rack recommended. Follow the instructions supplied with your unit. |
Measure your kitchen before choosing the size
Measure the cupboard opening as well as the shelf. A bowl can fit behind a door yet be awkward to remove around a hinge or shelf lip. Allow clearance to lift it out.
Next, picture the full preparation routine: rinsing, draining, spinning and cleaning. A bowl that fits on a shelf may still be inconvenient in a small sink. The storage lock reduces the protruding pump height; it does not turn the bowl into a flat or collapsible item.
Pros and limitations side by side
Reasons to consider it
- Pump operation offers an alternative to turning a crank.
- The brake gives you a dedicated way to stop the basket before unloading.
- A removable basket and separate bowl can serve different preparation steps.
- The listed lid design allows access for cleaning.
Reasons to think twice
- The large round bowl needs dedicated storage space.
- Several components need washing and drying after use.
- Small portions may not justify another kitchen tool.
- We have not tested drying performance, durability or hand comfort.
Salad spinner or colander and towel?
A colander helps drain rinse water. A clean towel can help remove remaining surface moisture, but it adds a separate handling and laundry step. A spinner brings the drying action into a contained basket, while adding a larger item to store and clean.
For a small amount of herbs, the extra washing may outweigh the benefit of a large spinner. For frequent leafy salads, compare that cleanup with your current towel routine. Follow the selected model’s loading guidance rather than tightly packing the basket.
What to check before ordering
- Confirm the large white version rather than a small, glass or multipack option.
- Compare the full dimensions with your cupboard and sink.
- Read cleaning and lid-disassembly instructions before forcing any part apart.
- Check the live offer and seller. We are not quoting a fixed price or claiming a discount.

Our buying recommendation
Choose the large model when your salad portions and storage space justify it. If you cannot give the bowl an accessible shelf, compare a smaller spinner or keep the colander-and-towel method. We have not measured drying speed or hand comfort.
